Обзор Canon Zoom Lens EF-S 18-55mm 1:3.5-5.6 IS II

Данная модель объектива очень слабо отличается от более ранней модели Canon Zoom LENS EF-S 18-55mm 1:3.5-5.6 IS. Оптически, скорее всего, это один и тот же объектив. Вот, визуальная разница:

Разница между IS, IS II

Вообще, у Canon имеется достаточно много объективов класса 18-55 3.5-5.6. После того, как я сделал табличку, меня сильно удивило, что оптическая схема у объективов практически одинаковая.

Объективы Canon EF-S 18-55

Canon EF-S 18-55mm F/3.5-5.6 IS II — это простенький, дешевый объектив, который идет в комплекте с зеркальными камерами Canon. Комплект поставки камеры вместе с объективом называется ‘kit’, а такой объектив чаще всего называют ‘китовым’. Объектив из этого обзора шел вместе с камерой Canon EOS 650D, как сказал мне владелец объектива, разница между Canon body и Canon kit 18-55 составляла порядка 30 у.е., потому он решил взять kit, чтобы сразу проверить камеру.

Canon EF-S 18-55mm F/3.5-5.6 IS II подходит только для кропнутых камер формата APS-C с байонетом Canon EF-S. ЭФР объектива составляет 29-88мм, такой диапазон очень удобный для большинства несложных снимков. Объектив не может похвастаться ничем особым, кроме стабилизатора изображения. Стабилизатор позволяет компенсировать слабую светосилу объектива при съемке с рук. Стабилизатор работает довольно неплохо. Я не заметил серьезного улучшения стабилизации по сравнению с первой версией объектива ‘IS I’.

При фокусировке передняя линза вращается и выезжает вперед. При зумировании хобот объектива ходит волнообразно, то убирается во внутрь, то выезжает вперед. На объективе имеется два переключателя: переключатель режима фокусировки и переключатель работы стабилизатора.

Байонет объектива пластиковый, как впрочем и сам корпус объектива. На самом деле мне в чем-то нравятся китовые объективы, они очень легкие, дешевые, их несложно брать с собой куда угодно, не нужно переживать за то, что с объективом может что-то случиться. Я часто рекомендую китовый объектив как базис, с которого стоит начать фотографировать, а иногда можно обойтись только одним этим Canon EF-S 18-55mm F/3.5-5.6 IS II

Важно как фотографировать, а не с помощью каких средств. В связи с тем, что IS II очень похож на версию IS I, я не стал писать детальный обзор данного объектива

Все фото без обработки. Уменьшен размер и впечатаны данные из EXIF. Все снято с включенной системой стабилизации. Экземпляр из этого обзора оказался не самым резким.

Конструкция объектива

Корпус объектива полностью пластиковый, даже крепление байонета, это означает невысокую надежность.
Широкое прорезиненное кольцо посредине отвечает за зум. Шкала зума помечена цифрами 18, 24, 35, 55 мм. передняя часть объектива выдвинута вперед на минимальном значении зума. При увеличении фокусного расстояния она заходит внутрь, достигая минимума где-то на 30 мм, потом снова выдвигается и достигает максимума при 55 мм.

Спереди расположено кольцо ручной фокусировки, оно настолько тонкое что за него даже трудно ухватится. Видно, что объектив для этого не особо предназначен. Кольцо поворачивается где то на 50°. Переключатель AF-MF расположен возле байонетного крепления, рядом с ним — включатель стабилизатора.

И кольцо зума и кольцо фокусировки крутятся достаточно легко. В максимально сложенном состоянии длина объектива составляет 70 мм, в максимально выдвинутом — 83 мм.

 

В целом конструкция объектива хлипкая — имеет большие люфты. Так что даже если вы в ручную навели фокус, что само по себе очень трудно из-за маленького рабочего хода фокусировочного кольца, то он может сбиться сразу после того как вы отпустите его.

Основное преимущество объектива — широкий угол на минимальном фокусном расстоянии 18 мм, что позволяет снимать объекты вблизи так, чтобы они поместились в кадр.
Еще одно преимущество объектива — встроенный стабилизатор изображения, который позволяет получать несмазанные снимки при съемке с рук при выдержках на несколько стопов длинниее чем без стабилизации.

Выводы:
Неплохой первый китовый объектив для ознакомления с фотосъемкой. За небольшие деньги (около 200 долларов) можно приобрести новый универсальный автофокусный объектив на зеркальную кропнутую зеркалку Canon. Недостатки — хлипкость из-за пластикового корпуса, посредственное качество изображения, сложность использования ручной фокусировки.

Далее я делаю выводы об объективе, исходя что он китовый. Поэтому все комментарии нужно воспринимать соответственно. Было бы некорректно давать оценку начинающему спортсмену сравнимая его с чемпионами. Здесь то же самое.

Резкость Canon EF-S 18-55mm 1:3.5-5.6 IS

Про резкость особо нечего сказать. Типичный китовый объектив — типичная резкость для объективов такого класса. Нормальная резкость короче.

Если сравнивать его с предшественником Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 II, то он имеет лучшие показатели резкости по краю кадра.

Объектив выдает плавное кремовое боке. Кончено из-за невысокой светосилы, хорошо выраженное боке можно наблюдать разве что при макросъемке или при съемке крупнолицевых портретов.

В остальных случаях боке наблюдать особо не приходится.

Объектив рассчитан для фотоаппаратов с кропнутой APS-C матрицей. ЭФР, в сравнении с форматом 35 мм составляет 29-88 мм. Широкого угла вполне хватает для большинства сцен.

Контраст и цветопередача Canon EF-S 18-55mm 1:3.5-5.6 IS

Объектив показывает неплохой контаст, но все же проигрывает современным китовым объективам.

Отдельно хочу сказать про работу стабилизатора. По заявлению производителя, с его помощью можно компенсировать 4 стопа светосилы. Понятно, что это маркетинговая уловка, поскольку стабилизатор может компенсировать только дрожание рук. Но сцены с быстро движущимися объектами никакой стабилизатор компенсировать не может.

Но все же при 100% увеличении снимка виден легкий смаз, поскольку люди немного двигались во время экспонирования.

При статических сценах стабилизатор оправдывает себя на все 100%.

ВыводыCanon EF-S 18-55mm 1:3.5-5.6 IS — стандартный китовый объектив. Многим любителям его вполне достаточно, чтобы получать хорошие снимки для дома и семьи.

Weighing a mere 205g and measuring 75cm in length, the Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM is one of the smallest and lightest standard zoom lenses that Canon offers. Being an EF-S lens, you can only use it on a Canon EOS APS-C body like the 700D that we tested it with, for a 29-88mm equivalent angle of view.

As you would expect from such an inexpensive lens, build quality is adequate rather than outstanding. The Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM feels fairly solid in your hand, despite the all-plastic construction, although the plastic mount is disappointing. The focusing ring is very narrow but has a ridged, rubberised grip band that assists with the finger-tip operation.

The Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM boasts Image Stabilisation which Canon claims offers an advantage of up to 4 f-stops over lenses without a stabilizer. This is activated via the On/Off switch on the side of the lens. If the camera body supports it, Canon’s IS technology is also able to detect intentional panning movement and automatically switch from the Normal IS mode to the Panning IS mode.

The final control on the lens barrel is a focus mode switch with the usual AF/MF settings. Note that this lens offers full-time manual focusing even when AF is selected.

The lens doesn’t ship with either a lens hood or a protective bag. It accepts 58mm filters.

At the 18mm focal length the angle of view is 74º 20′.

Focusing

The Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM lens has a very narrow focusing ring that doesn’t really encourage you to use it — perhaps Canon thinks that most users of this lens will never manually focus. There are no hard stops at either ends of the range, making it more difficult to set focus at infinity. Manual override of the autofocusing system is available at any time. Polariser users should be pleased that the 58mm filter thread doesn’t rotate on focus.

When it comes to auto-focusing, the Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM zoom is a quick performer, only taking about 0.15 seconds to lock onto the subject when mounted on the Canon EOS 700D that we tested it with. We didn’t experience too much «hunting» though, either in good or bad light, with the lens accurately focusing almost all of the time. It’s also a virtually silent performer too, thanks to the built-in STM (Stepping Motor), which makes this lens well-suited to video recording and more candid photography.

Chromatic Aberrations

Chromatic aberrations, typically seen as purple or blue fringes along contrasty edges, are not particularly well controlled with this lens, appearing in quite a lot of our test shots. The examples below show the worst-case scenario.

Light Fall-off

With the lens wide open at f/3.5 at 18mm, you can see some light fall-off in the corners, although Canon’s latest APS-C bodies can automatically correct for it when shooting JPEGs. There’s also some obvious barrel distortion that disappears by 35mm.

Macro

The Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM is not really a macro lens, but the close-focus point is a useful 25cm from the film/sensor plane, and Canon quotes a maximum reproduction ratio of 0.36x for the lens at the 55mm focal length. The following example illustrates how close you can get to the subject, in this case a CompactFlash card.

Bokeh

Bokeh is a word used for the out-of-focus areas of a photograph, and is usually described in qualitative terms, such as smooth / creamy / harsh etc. The Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM has an iris diaphragm with 7 rounded blades for a pleasing rendering of the out-of-focus highlights. Manual Focus

Manual focus is goofy; you have to move the switch on the lens to MF and then turn the thin little front section of the lens.

Distortion

The Canon 18-55mm IS II has strong barrel distortion at 18mm, moderate barrel distortion at 24mm, and no visible distortion from 35-55mm.

If this bothers you and your camera can’t be set to correct it automatically, use these figures in Photoshop’s
lens distortion filter to rectify it.

These aren’t facts or specifications, they are the results of my research that requires hours of photography and calculations on the resulting data.

Ergonomics

Most of the lens is its zoom ring; that’s good.

The manual focus ring is the tiny ring around the front of the lens. It’s not much fun to focus manually, for which you have to move a switch as well.

If you want instant manual-focus override, get the newer 18-55mm IS STM instead.

Macro

Macro performance is very very good. It gets very close and it’s very sharp:

If this crop is about 6″ (15cm) wide on your screen, then the complete image printed at this same extreme magnification would be about 20 x 30″ (50 x 75cm). In this case, you’re seeing the texture of the silver paint on the watch face.

If this crop is about 12″ (30cm) wide on your screen, then the complete image printed at this same extreme magnification would be about 40 x 60″ (1 x 1.5 meters). In this case, you’re seeing the texture of the silver paint on the watch face.

Sharpness

This lens is sharp all the time, and it can get even sharper stopped down a little bit.

Just look at the  .

The biggest limitation to sharpness is your skill as a photographer.

Sharpness isn’t everything; here are two super sharp images from this lens that aren’t exactly exciting:

Конструктив и эргономика Canon EF-S 18-55mm 1:3.5-5.6 IS

Объектив имеет пластмассовый корпус, байонет тоже пластмассовый.

Средняя часть оправы представляет собой широкое прорезиненное кольцо зуммирования.

Также имеется кольцо ручной фокусировки, оно узкое и находится возле передней линзы. Им конечно можно пользоваться, но в сравнении с мануальными объективами неудобно.

При зуммировании объектив волнообразно меняет длину, самый компактный вид при фокусном расстоянии 30 мм.

Слева, ближе к камере на объективе есть 2 переключателя. Режим AF/MF для переключения между ручной и автоматической фокусировкой. И переключатель включения/выключения стабилизатора.

При фокусировке, передняя линза вращается.

Объектив оснащен встроенным мотором фокусировки. Автофокус работает нормально, промахивается редко.

В целом качество сборки неплохое. Дизайн мне тоже нравится, на камере смотрится солиднее, чем китовые объективы Nikon.

Интересно, что объектив имеет скругленные лепестки диафрагмы, что позволяет получать ровные кружочки боке.

Recommendations

This is a swell little lens, ideal for the small cameras with which it’s kitted.

If I was buying a lens outright, I’d spend a little more for the newest 18-55mm IS STM which is the same size and has faster, silent autofocus with instant manual override and has incredible macro ability.

The very best protective filter for either of these is the Hoya multicoated HD3 58mm UV which uses hardened glass and repels dirt and fingerprints, but costs 1/3 as much as the lens.

For less money, the B+W 58mm 010 is an excellent filter, as are the multicoated version and the basic multicoated Hoya filters, but the Hoya HD3 is the toughest and the best. The Hoya HD3 stays cleaner than the others since it repels oil and dirt, and since filters last a lifetime, you’ll use it on your next lenses. No big deal, I’d get the basic Hoya filter if all you’re worried about is today.

Yes, you can lust after the 17-55mmm f/2.8 IS or 18-135mm IS USM, but either of those weighs more than some of the small Canon cameras that are ideal for use with this 18-55mm lens! Never underestimate the power of a small, lightweight lens: it will let you feel better and carry your camera longer and farther to make more pictures than a big heavy lens that you’d rather leave home.
